Choosing a Lawyer

San Diego Fire Victims Lawyers knows there are many lawyers making themselves available to represent fire victims and that choosing a lawyer can be a difficult decision. Here are some questions to ask in the process of making this choice:

  • Do the lawyers have experience, not only in mass tort cases, but in fire cases and, specifically, fires caused by electrical utilities?
  • Are the lawyers local, with an understanding of the various communities in San Diego and San Diego court procedures?
  • Do the lawyers have trial experience and are they willing to go to trial? (While most cases settle short of trial, a fair settlement can be obtained only if the lawyers are experienced trial lawyers and are willing to go to trial.)
  • Do the lawyers have the financial capability and willingness to bankroll a case such as this with the high cost of experts, investigation, and litigation expenses?
  • Did the lawyers become involved in the case early on, hire experts, and, with those experts, participate in inspections at the points of origin of the Witch Creek, Guejito, and Rice Fires? (Since the early June 2008 Witch Creek inspection, the Witch Creek power lines have been removed.)
  • Are the lawyers pursuing full recovery of individual losses or merely a class action recovery to divide arbitrarily among fire victims?
  • Are the lawyers, themselves, available to fire victims, or are fire victims directed to an outsourced call center?
